Export flightplans to your GPS device

On the bottom of the page with the calculated flightplan, you will see something like this:

Why "something like this" and not "exactly like this"?

The direct load to Garmin stuff is an interface fully provided by Garmin. And this interface does have some restrictions:
  • You must have the "Garmin Communicator" plugin installed on your browser.
  • The "Garmin Communicator" plugin is only available for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Those visiting goVFR with a different browser than supported by Garmin may see some garbage instead.

Before you despair: The download gpx always works!

Your flightplan is coded to be displayed as a "route" (and not as a "track") so you may easily navigate.

Just click the "download gpx" button.
A dialog appears, asking you to save or to open the file.
Save the file somewhere on your computer.
Transfer the file to your gps device using the vendor equipment (you should have got cables and programs to do so when you bought the device).

Directly transfer to a Garmin device
pre) If you haven't already done so, download and install the Garmin Communicator plugin from Garmin.
1) Connect your (turned on) Garmin device with the computer using an USB cable.
2) (If your GPS device asks whether to establish a connection as "mass storage", say "no")
3) Click the "send flightplan" button.

If the route isn't transfered to your GPS device, scream.
Then send us a message, telling us the exact configuration: Browser, computer operation system, GPS device, ...
We will scream.
We don't have much chance to get it fixed, but we can at least post it in this thread so other users are aware of troubles.
happy landings,

GoVFR is fantastic, but I cannot yet work with it.
I like to use a Garmin "street" GPS with a 5' display (to see better): the Nuvi 1490 or something. Can I use this with goVFR? I must say, for me it is very difficult to learn about computers and stuff in books, I learn better with someone in real.
Many times I tried already to make a flight plan, but it doesn't work. As soon as I know it works for me, I will subscribe and contribute.

Is there anyone who can teach me? I'm leaving in the Uri Kanton.

Hoping for help from one of you, I wish you nice flights!
