NM PER HOUR AND KTS

Postby alexanderk » Wed Sep 07, 2011 7:59 pm

I just joined minutes ago this govfr. I am surprised to see that in more than one place the makers of this site speak of kts per hour. I seriously hope that they do not fly any aircraft. A KNOT already is a speed. Namely a nautical mile per hour. So a KNOT PER HOUR is not a speed, but an acceleration: One nautical mile per hour per hour increase in speed.

I seriously doubt the capabilities of the people that run this show. Or is it me being annoying?

Hi Alexander

Many thanks for your feedback and your instructions regarding velocities. I actually do fly helicopters but did not fall from the sky yet because of this bug. I hope this erroneous label is not all you judge our capabilities with.

Best regards, Marco

Indeed right Marco ! Way to go ...
For the record, I learned a few years ago that :
1 kts = 1,852 km/u or 1 kts = 1,151 MPH
For very quick calculations ... groundspeed 60 kts = 1 NM per minute or groundspeed 90 kts = 1.5 NM per minute.
